How to find winning products for dropshipping

To find winning dropshipping products, start from Shopify stores that are growing, read what they sell best, then check that ads for those products have run for weeks. This guide walks through each step, with the filters to use and a simple sheet to score what you find.

A winning product is one that already sells for someone else, at a price that leaves room for ads and shipping. You cannot see another store's orders, so you look for signals that point the same way. A store whose traffic is rising. A product near the top of its best sellers. Ads for that product that keep running. When the signals agree, the product is worth a test. When only one of them does, keep looking.

The steps below use SellWinners for the research and a spreadsheet for the decision. Steps 1 and 2 are what the product research tool does. Every step works in Explore, the web app, and through the API.

Step 1: find winning dropshipping products in growing stores

Start with stores, not products. A store that gained traffic over the last 30 days is selling something people want right now, and its catalog tells you what. Search stores by product name and you get the stores that sell it, side by side.

  1. Open Shops in Explore and set Match to Product name.
  2. Type a product idea, for example "posture corrector" or "dog harness".
  3. Sort by Growth 30d.
  4. In the filters, set a minimum for Monthly visits, so that stores with almost no visitors drop out of the list.
  5. Add Main market countries if you only ship to some countries.

Search stores by product in Explore

No product idea yet? Leave the search empty. With no search at all, the shop listing returns the stores that are trending, and the Categories filter narrows them to one niche. It is a good way to find growing Shopify stores you have never heard of.

Shops take 52 filters. For product research the useful ones are Traffic growth, Units sold, Est. monthly sales, Best seller price and Active ads. Here is the same search through the API, with a floor of 20,000 monthly visits:

# Search or browse shops (trending when empty)
curl "https://api.sellwinners.com/v1/shops?search=posture%20corrector&searchType=productName&minMonthlyVisits=20000&sortBy=growth30d&limit=10" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Step 2: read the best sellers of each store

Open a store from the results. Its header shows Monthly visits with the change over 30 days, and Est. monthly sales with a low and a high figure under it. The Overview tab adds the traffic chart and the store's best sellers. The Products tab lists the best sellers and the newest products, and sorts them by popularity, price or date.

Look for three things.

  • The same kind of product in several stores. One store can be lucky. When five growing stores have a similar item near the top of their best sellers, you have a market.
  • A price that leaves margin. The Best seller price filter keeps the stores whose best sellers sit in a price range you can work with.
  • Numbers that hold. A store whose sales estimate has climbed for weeks tells you more than one with a single jump.

On a store, units sold and sales are estimates for the whole store, and a best seller is ranked inside it with no sales figure of its own. The product search gives a product its own estimate of revenue and units sold: look a best seller up there before you shortlist it.

Step 3: check the ads behind the product

An ad that keeps running is a strong demand signal. Advertisers tend to switch off ads that lose money, so an ad live for a month or more is likely paying for itself. It proves nothing on its own, but it is quick to check.

  1. Open Ads in Explore, on the Meta tab.
  2. Search the product name. A search returns one ad per brand, so the list shows you which brands advertise it.
  3. Set Status to active and Days running to at least 30.
  4. Sort by Longest running.

When many brands keep ads running for one product, there is demand, and there is competition. A handful of brands, each with ads running for weeks, is often the better spot for a new store. Open an ad to read its copy, its hook and its video transcript, and to see which store it sends people to. See Meta ads library search for more ways to search Meta ads.

Days running works on Meta, Google and TikTok ads. Reach and estimated spend exist for Meta ads shown in the EU and the UK, on every plan. Use them to see which ads reach the most people, not as a measure of sales.

# Search Meta ads
curl "https://api.sellwinners.com/v1/ads?search=posture%20corrector&status=active&minDaysRunning=30&sortBy=longestRunning&limit=10" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Step 4: check TikTok for the same product

TikTok shows how people react to a product, in ads and in organic posts. Search the product name in the TikTok ads library, pick ads, organic posts or both, and set a minimum number of views. A product that turns up in posts from many accounts, with high views, has interest you do not have to create yourself.

TikTok results carry views, likes, comments, saves and shares. They carry no reach and no ad spend. With a search text, results come by relevance. Leave the search empty when you want to sort by views or likes.

Search TikTok ads in Explore

Step 5: size up the competition

Before you commit, look at who already sells the product. Open a store that sells it and go to its Similar tab. You get the stores most like it, each with a similarity score, its monthly visits, its growth over 30 days and its active ads. Sort them by Growth 30d to see which rivals are rising. It is the quickest way to find a store's competitors.

If several small rivals are growing, the market is still open. If every similar store is shrinking, it may be past its peak. Write down what you see and move on to the score.

To see how those rivals sell, read their emails. On paid plans the email marketing library shows whether they push their products with discounts, bundles or launches, and how often they write.

Step 6: score each product in a spreadsheet

A spreadsheet stops you from falling for the first product you like. Make one row per product and one column per signal. Score each column 0, 1 or 2, then add up the row.

A scoring sheet for dropshipping product research. Score each column 0, 1 or 2.

A product that scores 10 or more out of 14 goes to a test. Anything lower goes to a watch tab, because products can turn later. Recheck that tab every two weeks: growth and days running change fast.

A faster first pass with your AI agent

On paid plans, the MCP server gives your AI agent the same data as tools. Ask it to run find_winning_products with a niche and up to five product words. It searches the stores that sell those products, keeps the fastest-growing ones and lists up to three matching best sellers per store, with each store's monthly visits, growth, active ads and estimated monthly sales.

A prompt that works: "Find winning products in the pet niche for the words harness and leash, for stores whose main market is the US. Then check the Meta ads of the top three stores." The agent can go on with search_ads for step 3 and find_similar_shops for step 5. The MCP server page has the configuration to paste into Claude, Cursor or VS Code.

What you can do on the Free plan

Part of this method works on the Free plan. Search a store by domain to read its overview: traffic, estimated sales and best sellers. Read each shop's Meta ads on its page; the search across every brand is on paid plans.

Product search, searching stores by product name, the shop filters and sorts, Google and TikTok ads, the full list of similar stores, the API, the MCP server and find_winning_products are on paid plans. Compare the plans and start free.

Some checks need no tool at all. Visit the store and read the product page as a buyer would: the reviews, the delivery promise, the return policy. Search the product name on a few marketplaces to see what it sells for elsewhere. If the same item costs half as much one click away, your margin will not survive.

Mistakes that cost the most

  • Picking from one store. One store's best seller can come from a single influencer post or a clearance sale. Look for the pattern across stores.
  • Trusting a spike. A store that doubled its traffic last week can lose it next week. Prefer growth you can see over a month or more in the traffic chart.
  • Reading estimates as facts. Sales figures for other stores are estimates. Use them to rank and compare, not to forecast your own sales. The guide on how much a Shopify store makes explains why.

FAQ

Common questions

What is a winning product in dropshipping?

A product that sells steadily for more than one store, at a price that leaves room for ads and shipping. One viral week is not enough. Look for stores that keep growing while they sell it, and for ads that keep running.

Can I find winning products for free?

Partly. The Free plan needs no card. Search a store by domain to read its estimated sales and best sellers, and read each shop's Meta ad library on its page. Product search, searching stores by product name, the shop filters, Google and TikTok ads and find_winning_products are on paid plans. See the plans and their prices.

Does SellWinners show how many units each product sells?

Yes, as estimates. The product search gives each product its estimated units sold and revenue, a day and a month. On a store's page, units sold and estimated sales cover the whole store, and its best sellers come ranked with their price but without a sales number each. Check the ads for each product either way.

Does SellWinners find suppliers?

No. It shows stores, their best sellers and the ads they run. Finding a supplier and checking its price and shipping time is a separate step that you do with the supplier.

Can my AI agent run this research?

Yes, on paid plans. Connect the SellWinners MCP server to Claude, Cursor or VS Code and ask your agent to run find_winning_products with a niche and up to five product words. Setup is on the MCP server page.

Start free, then upgrade when you need more

No card is needed. The Free plan includes the web app and the MCP server (150 credits a month), without the API. The API and the other datasets need a paid plan. Paid plans start at €39 a month.
