FormulaConversion rate = orders / sessions x 100

Conversion rate is the percentage of visits that end in a conversion. For an online store that usually means an order, though you can also track sign-ups, add to carts or any step that matters to you.

It multiplies everything else. Double the conversion rate and the same traffic and ad budget bring twice the orders, so your CPA halves. Few numbers are worth more effort.

  • Make sure the landing page matches the promise of the ad.
  • Use clear product photos, a benefit-led description and honest reviews.
  • Show shipping costs and delivery times early, so they don't surprise buyers at checkout.
  • Speed up your pages, especially on phones.
  • Win back lost sales with abandoned cart emails.

Common mistakes: comparing your rate with a generic benchmark from another niche, price point or traffic source, and lumping all sources together. Cold traffic from ads converts very differently from returning customers, so measure each source separately.

Test one change at a time with A/B testing, so you know which change moved the rate.
