An ad creative is everything in an ad that the audience experiences: the image, video or carousel, the primary text, the headline and the call to action. Targeting and budget decide who can see it; the creative decides whether they stop, care and click.
On Meta and TikTok, where the platform's algorithm does much of the targeting, the creative also signals who the ad is for. A clear, specific creative tends to attract the buyers it speaks to. Strong e-commerce creatives usually have these parts.
- A hook in the first line or the first seconds.
- The product shown in use, solving a real problem.
- Proof: reviews, demonstrations, before and after, or UGC.
- A clear offer and call to action.
- A format that fits the placement, such as vertical video for Reels, Stories and TikTok.
Common mistakes: testing tiny variations instead of different ideas, running one creative until it wears out, and copying a competitor's ad without understanding why it works.
